Pirates

So I finally got to see the final installment of Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. Other than the fact that Orlando Bloom is quite a hottie, specially at the end of the movie, I didn't think it was as good as the other two. It was one of those movies in which i check my watch often as I'm watching it. That usually means it is dragging on far too long. The story itself was okay but it seemed to be lacking somewhere. I am in total agreement with the Gazette's filmblog. All in all it was a good film. If you happen to go see it stay till the credits are done running there is an extra scene.

Judge orders Paris Hilton back to jail
Weeping heiress screams 'It's not right!' as she's taken from courtroom

LOS ANGELES - Screaming and crying, Paris Hilton was escorted out of a courtroom and back to jail Friday after a judge ruled that she must serve out her entire 45-day sentence behind bars rather than in her Hollywood Hills home.
“It’s not right!” shouted the weeping Hilton, who violated her parole in a reckless driving case. “Mom!” she called out to her mother in the audience.
Hilton, who was brought to court in handcuffs in a sheriff’s car, came into the courtroom disheveled and weeping, hair askew, sans makeup, wearing a gray fuzzy sweat shirt over slacks.

She cried throughout the hearing, her body shook constantly and she dabbed at her eyes. Several times she turned to her parents, seated behind her in the courtroom, and mouthed, “I love you.”
Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer was calm but apparently irked by the morning’s developments. He said he had left the courthouse Thursday night having signed an order for Hilton to appear for the hearing.
When he got in his car early Friday, he said, he heard a radio report that he had approved Hilton’s participation in the hearing by telephone, but he had not.
“I at no time condoned the actions of the sheriff and at no time told him I approved the actions,” he said of the decision to release Hilton from jail after three days.
“At no time did I approve the defendant being released from custody to her home on Kings Road,” Sauer said.
Assistant City Attorney Dan F. Jeffries argued that Hilton should be returned to jail, and said that was purely the judge’s decision to make. “Her release after only three days erodes confidence in the judicial system,” Jeffries said.
Hilton’s attorney, Richard Hutton, implored the judge to order a hearing in his chambers at which he would hear testimony about Hilton’s medical condition before making a decision.

The judge did not respond to that suggestion.
Another of her attorneys, Steve Levine, said, “The sheriff has determined that because of her medical situation, this (jail) is a dangerous place for her.”
“The court’s role here is to let the Sheriff’s Department run the jail,” he said.
A former district attorney, Robert Philibosian, also represented Hilton. He said that the law supports the sheriff in making an independent decision on her custodial situation.

One Wild Ride

Wheelchair user taken on wild 50-mph ride
Chair becomes lodged on semitrailer's grille, travels 4 miles on highway

PAW PAW, Mich. - A man was taken on a wild ride when his wheelchair became lodged in the grille of a semitrailer and was accidentally pushed down a highway for four miles at about 50 mph, authorities said.
The 21-year-old man, whose name was not released, was unharmed but was taken to a hospital as a precaution. He had been secured to his wheelchair by a seat belt.
“The man spilled his soda pop, but he wasn’t upset,” said Sgt. Kathy Morton of the Michigan State Police.
About 4 p.m. Wednesday, a caller told police dispatchers, “You are not going to believe this: There is a semi truck pushing a guy in a wheelchair on Red Arrow Highway,” state police said in a release.
Prank call?Authorities initially wondered whether the report was a prank call until others called with similar reports.
Officers stopped the truck — wheelchair still attached — at a trucking company. The driver didn’t believe officers until he stepped from his cab and saw for himself.
“When he saw us, he was like, ’What’s going on?”’ Morton said.
An investigation revealed the man in the wheelchair had pulled in front of the truck at a gas station and it somehow became lodged by its handles to the front grille.

Paris Hilton Released From LA Jail Early

By ROBERT JABLON Associated Press Writer
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Paris Hilton was released from a Los Angeles County jail early Thursday because of an unspecified medical problem and will fulfill the remainder of her sentence for probation violation in home confinement, a sheriff's spokesman said.
The 26-year-old hotel heiress was sent home shortly after 2 a.m. wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.
Hilton was sentenced to 45 days for violating her probation in a reckless driving case, but had been expected to serve 23 days in jail because of state rules allowing shorter sentences for good behavior.
She ended up spending three full days at the all-women's facility in Lynwood, but because she checked in late Sunday and left early Thursday, authorities credited her with five days of time served. She'll be confined to her Hollywood Hills home for 40 days.
"I can't specifically talk about the medical situation other than to say that yes, it played a part in this," Whitmore said.
Hutton didn't immediately return calls seeking comment Thursday. Nor did her publicist, Elliot Mintz.
Whitmore refused to answer questions from reporters when asked if the medical condition was physical or psychological. He said it was not a staph infection. The jail provided Hilton with a pamphlet on the skin infection when she checked in.
The conditions of Hilton's home confinement were not immediately disclosed. Whitmore referred all questions to the L.A. County Probation Department. Messages left for the person handling media calls weren't immediately returned.
Hilton had surrendered to authorities with little fanfare late Sunday after a surprise appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, where she worked the red carpet in a strapless designer gown.
"I am trying to be strong right now," she told reporters at the time. "I'm ready to face my sentence. Even though this is a really hard time, I have my family, my friends and my fans to support me, and that's really helpful."
Hilton was housed in the "special needs" unit of the 13-year-old jail, separate from most of its 2,200 inmates. The unit contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates. She didn't have a cellmate.
Hilton's lawyer, Richard A. Hutton, said Monday after his client's first night in jail that she was doing well under the circumstances.
"She's using this time to reflect on her life, to see what she can do to make the world better and hopefully, in my opinion, to change the attitudes that exist about her among many people," Hutton said after visiting Hilton.
When Hilton was sentenced May 4, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled she would not be allowed any work release, furloughs or use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail.
Whitmore said Thursday that Sauer "was consulted and he was advised."
Officers arrested Hilton in Hollywood on Sept. 7. In January, she pleaded no contest to the reckless-driving charge and was sentenced to 36 months' probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines.
She was pulled over by California Highway Patrol on Jan. 15. Officers informed Hilton she was driving on a suspended license and she signed a document acknowledging she was not to drive. She then was pulled over by sheriff's deputies on Feb. 27, at which time she was charged with violating probation.

Proof that its all a Conspiracy

Parking Attendants Get Pulled Over

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- It was a sight that would make any flagrant parking meter flouter smile. Police were pulling over parking meter attendants to warn them that their $9,600 miniature Mitsubishi and Subaru were not street legal and did not have proper tags.
The state Division of Motor Vehicles told the Huntington Municipal Parking Board last week that the two golf-cart-like trucks it bought were manufactured for off-road use only. They also don't qualify as low-speed vehicles and can't be registered, according to Glenn Pauley, DMV director of vehicle services.
The trucks sit at the city garage while the Huntington Municipal Parking Board decides what to do with them.
The board thought the two gas-powered vehicles would be more cost-effective than the electric carts attendants used because they get about 50 miles per gallon and don't have to be taken off the streets at least two hours a day to be recharged, said Johnette Nelson, the parking board executive director.
They also don't require a new $1,200 battery every 18 months or so.
"Our profit margin increased about $5,000 during the month that we used the trucks," she said. "That's not including the additional revenue that the city received."
The parking board keeps $3 from every $5 parking ticket; the city gets the remaining $2.

Wise Men and Bones

I am sure that not many people are seeing this blog but, but if you are I thought I would discuss a book that I just finished reading Map of Bones by James Rollins. I just loved this books. Some have compared this book to The DaVinci Code, although I thought that was a good book I think this one is much better. Here is a summary of what it is about:

Map of Bones by James Rollins
Book Description
The bestselling master of astonishing adventure James Rollins delivers his most relentlessly exciting page-turner to date—a gripping and explosive novel of an ancient conspiracy to create a terrifying new world order out of the ashes of modern civilization.
The crime is inhumanly cruel with horrific consequences both unthinkable and inevitable. During a service at a cathedral in Cologne, Germany, a band of armed intruders dressed in monks robes unleash a nightmare of blood and terror, ruthlessly gunning down worshippers and clergy alike. The killers haven't come for the Church's gold and valuable artwork, but for a priceless treasure secreted within: the preserved bones of the Three Magi who once came to pay homage to a newborn savior. As they flee the carnage they have wrought, they carry a prize that could reshape the world.
The Vatican is in turmoil, and Lieutenant Rachel Verona of Romes carabinieri is assigned to lead the investigation. But no ordinary police organization alone can deal with the bizarre theft and massacre, and SIGMA Force—an elite covert arm of the U.S. Defense Department—is called in under the command of Grayson Pierce. New to SIGMA, Pierce assembles a crack team of scientific and Special Forces operatives to unravel the mystery of the stolen bones, and together they set out on a twisting trail through a labyrinth of clues and dark revelations that carry them to the sites of the Seven Wonders of the World—and to the doorstep of the mystical and terrifying Dragon Court.
An ancient, secret fraternity of alchemists and assassins, the master-adepts of the Dragon Court have plans for the sacred remains that will alter the future of humankind in devastating ways that only the maddest of zealots could desire—and they will let nothing and no one stand in their way. Suddenly Pierce, Verona, and the SIGMA team are the hunted as well as the hunters, forced to use every skill they possess to survive as they follow the bones to the ultimate confrontation between darkness and light—in a lost place of history where science and religion will unite to unleash a horror not seen since the beginning of time.
A masterful novel that combines the exhilarating mysticism of The Da Vinci Code with the pulse-pounding action of a Tom Clancy thriller, James Rollinss Map of Bones is destined to be a modern classic that will stand among the very best adventure tales ever written.

Try it and Let me know what you think.
